Hola, Hi, Kia Ora! I'm MaBe (MariaBella), and I'm so excited to share my love of baking with you! Welcome to Sweetargentos, where every treat is made with a sprinkle of joy and a whole lot of heart.
Like many good stories, ours started during the COVID-19 pandemic. Missing those we love, I wanted to find a way to send them a little bit of happiness. So, I started baking my favorite Argentinian alfajores. First, I shared them with family and friends, then neighbors, and well... word spread! It was like watching a little seed of joy blossom into something wonderful.
Now, you might be wondering, what's an alfajor? (pronounced "al-fa-ho-res"). They're these incredible Argentinian pastries – think delicate, melt-in-your-mouth cookies, sandwiched with creamy dulce de leche (a rich caramel), and dipped in chocolate. We use 'Vacalin' dulce de leche, a true Argentinian favorite since 1981, because it's simply the best!
My husband's childhood memories of his grandma's baking in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, really inspired us. The aroma of freshly baked cookies filled their home, and we wanted to recreate those warm, comforting moments. We even use recipes from his grandma's cookbook, "El Portal del NOA Argentino" (NOA is the North West Region of Argentina). Baking with love, we're keeping those special connections alive in every alfajor.

Our dream is to share our Argentine culture through our artisan, baked-to-order alfajores. We launched our online shop in Christchurch in December 2020, and we're so happy to bring this traditional treat to Aotearoa. We hope you love them as much as we do!
